I don't think so. The reality of this game is that the Raiders held the Chiefs to 10 points until the third quarter when, to quote the Raiders Charles Woodson, "The whole second half it started falling apart". Exactly like it has for the Raiders this year in 12 of 14 attempts.
That is the kind of team that the Chiefs should beat. Every time. Except the record shows that the Chiefs are 1-1 against that team this season. Does that give Chiefs fans pause? It should, but it probably doesn't. Chiefs fans defense mechanisms have been kicking in since the losses started coming after last years 9-0 Zombie run. This years games have only enhanced what those mechanisms are trying to tell you. Namely, "don't look too closely at the team, believe the hype in spite of what actually happens on the field, and feel warm and fuzzy that there is always next year".
Barf. I'm tired of waiting through years of what is obviously poorly managed, poorly executed and underperforming football. Supervised by over-the-hill coaches who are done with the pursuit of excellence part of their careers, instead hooking up with the Chiefs to get their shot at the gravy train of a working retirement.
Next weeks game is a good test for these Chiefs. Can they win when playing a decent team? Especially one with a suspect defense? We are going to find out.
This is Ben Roethlisberger. I just call him Cheese. Cheese is currently preparing for a meeting with the Chiefs on Sunday in Pittsburgh. He only needs 2 TD passes to become the first Steelers QB to have 250. He's got his cast of characters ready too. Guys like Antonio Brown who owns the current NFL record for longest streak of games with 5+ receptions and 50+ yards, at 30 games and counting. Guys like LeVeon Bell who needs 22 rushing yards to join Steven Jackson, Marshall Faulk and Brian Westbrook as the only players in NFL history to amass 1300+ rushing and 750+ receiving yards in a single season.
And of course, we simply cannot forget about this guy.
The Steelers secure a post season spot with a win on Sunday. Go Todd, Go.
Does that give Chiefs fans confidence heading into Sunday? It shouldn't but those defense mechanisms have already filed this game under the win column because of fate, kismet and the planetary alignment says it's time. Yessir, those fans are right now thinking about how cool it will be to beat San Diego in the finale and squeak into the playoffs. Yeah. Right.
Keep watching folks. And sharpen up your fire Andy Reid acumen because come the end of the season, we're gonna need it.
